Humble Beginning of the Land Rover
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007Land Rover is the well-renowned British manufacturer for all-terrain vehicles and Multi-Purpose Vehicles. This automaker was originally referred to one specific vehicle, which is a civilian all-terrain utility vehicle thatw as launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show on the 30th of April 1948. But it was later termed for a car brand that produces several distinct models but have one thing in common – being all four-wheel drives.
The first Land Rover
The very first model for Land Rover was designed by Michael Bouscher, who is a chief designer at the British car company Rover, on 1947. He was inspired at that time by the Jeep vehicle he used one summer during the World War II. Hence, the first Land Rover prototype “center steer” was built on the chassis of a Jeep. Its distinctive feature is its body, which is constructed of a lightweight rustproof proprietary alloy of aluminum and magnesium called Birmabright.
It then started out as an internal division of the car maker Rover, to which it designed and manufactured a lot of four-wheel drive vehicles. It was then managed by a succession of owners such as British Leyland, British Aerospace and BMW.
At the moment, this make is part of the Premier Automotive Group, which is a division of the Ford Motor Company. It is now considered as one of the longest living Sports Utility Vehicle brand. Since it is a part of the Ford Motor Company, the Land Rover has then been closely associated with Jaguar. They actually share common sales and distribution network in a lot of countires, and some of their models also share components and production facilities.
