Addressing the climate change is one of the things included in Land Rover’s programs. To address this, the automaker formed a partnership with Climate Care in September 2006 in UK for a carbon dioxide offsetting program. Climate Care is known as a respected CO2 offset provider.

Now, Land Rover’s CO2 offsetting program is venturing out of UK lands and going to the Gulf. It was during the Middle East Internartional Motor Show that the Global Managing Director of Land Rover, UndertPhil Popham, announced the automaker’s plan of extending is offsetting program to the Gulf. This Land Rover program s actually known as the largest consumer offset undertaking in the world. The program’s main goal is to help both the company and the consumers address the issue on climate change. However, the ultimate goal of the program is to have CO2 neutrality from manufacturing and new vehicles sold.

The Middle East market is actually one of the first markets that’s outside of UK to experience the CO2 offset program of Land Rover as well. Popham said that the vehicles to have their CO2 emissions offset are the Land Rover LR2, LR3, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover models that had been sold in the Gulf from the 09 model year introduction. All these have been packaged with quality Land Rover parts.

Popham added, “We want Land Rover customers to be assured that not only will their purchase continue to be highly desirable, but they will also be part of a programme that will make an immediate and real impact on CO2 levels through offset projects around the world.”

Regarding choosing the Middle East market, Popham said the importance of the Gulf market saying, “The Middle East market is awash with optimism, adventure and a real ‘can do’ attitude - the very same attributes that distinguish Land Rover. The Middle East is the third largest market for Range Rover in the world. In September, Land Rover sales in the region increased by 36% as global sales rose to 26,000, a 34% increase.”

Andy Gawthorpe, the Managing Director of Land Rover Middle East, commented regarding the involvement of the automaker in programs about environment conservation, saying, “It has been another successful year for Land Rover and the future looks promising. We plan to maintain the momentum and the strong focus for future models is to keep the innovative brand character alive while developing technology that contributes to environment protection.”

Land Rover has dedicated itself into improving the CO2 emissions by reducing its levels with each new model they produce. It does this by developing new technologies aimed at the reduction of the harmful CO2 emissions. It also equipped its models with Land Rover engine parts that have been improved to deliver lesser Carbon dioxide emissions. The automaker has already been successful in cutting of its CO2 emissions by 30 percent in its Solihull manufacturing plant.

The CO2 offset program of Land Rover is one of the key elements of the automaker in reducing CO2 emissions and so it also plans to bring this initiative to other countries as well. And for the betterment of the environment, Land Rover also announced that it has plans on developing new technologies and these include hybrid vehicles and lightweight engineering. What land Rover wants to achieve in the future is that it can offer consumers with a desirable model but which also sustain the environment.
