The Range Rover Sport has received the “Best Off-Road SUV” award at Mudfest (the 14th annual Northwest SUV of the Year Competition). The awarding ceremony was spearheaded by the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA). The NWAPA is made up of “automotive journalists from the Pacific Northwest, as well as representatives of various manufacturers and other industry professionals spanning the automotive industry”. Every year, NWAPA comes together to judge the best performing vehicles in specific categories.

For the “Best Off-Road SUV” award, the parameters for judging were “performance, handling and braking as well as the on-road and off-road demeanor” of each SUV. Vehicle tests included “hill-climbing and descent abilities, ride comfort and low-range handling, curve handling, and emergency braking maneuvers”.

The Range Rover Sport’s “V8 power, short wheelbase, and low, wide stance” performed best among the tests made by the NWAPA. Its active suspension, and dynamic response was perfect for SUV enthusiasts who put a premium in their vehicle’s power and performance.

This is the third time that a Land Rover / Range Rover vehicle has won an award from the NWAPA.

In order to solve problems regarding air pollution, the British government plans on charging luxury utility vehicle owners an amount of $50 per day if they want to drive in London. The $50 charge will be used to take the necessary measures for taking care of the environment as well as cleaning the air in the best way the British government deem possible. This plan is brought about the idea that luxury vehicles are not quite friendly to the environment. Hence, the government is thinking of having a charge to cover for the cost to repair the damage done to the environment.

The abovementioned plan of the British government is in not applicable to the United States. For this reason, SUVs are present as ever in the United States. Luckily, a Diesel Range Rover Sport has similar fuel economy to many normal saloon cars. In fact, a vast majority of Range Rovers and Land Rover engine parts that are being sold in the United Kingdom are powered by diesel. Buyers from the United States continue to gobble up SUVs regardless of the environmental cost. According to the records, Sport Utility Vehicles and trucks alike still continue to persist in the market even with the continuing elevated gas prices.

Vehicles such as the Land Rover and Range Rover are equipped with Land Rover parts that can help in fuel economy. And to extend Land Rover’s gratitude to American SUV buyers, Land Rover plans to bequeath 250 versions of the Range Rover Sport with an exclusive Limited Edition package, which would only be available in North America.
