Land Rover launches Sustainability Program

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Even with the reputation of providing quality-grade and sturdy Land Rover Accessories and parts to its consumers, Land Rover is still being plagued with another entirely negative image, that of being one of the worst polluters in the automotive world. Thus, the company has decided to set a more proactive tone in the designating Global Brand Communications Director Julian Whitehead to rectify such damaging associations.

Whitehead, who is presently enjoying the post of Global Brand Communications Director for two years previous to being the UK Sales Director, is tasked to lead the company’s sustainability program on top of his other brand duties.

Prior to such development news, Land Rover has already been taking the necessary steps to lower emissions from its existing fleets. In fact, the Land Rover currently manages one of the industry’s major carbon-offsetting programs, with the sole purpose of improving its Land Rover Parts. Nevertheless, it can be said that it is still an early stage for the program. For instance, the Land Rover Freelander, the company’s smallest vehicle, still emits the 194g of Carbon Dioxide per Km as contrast to the 140g per km recommendation of the European Commission.

The 2007 Land Rover Defender

And now, with Whitehead leading the helm, Land Rover officials are positive that the hurtful brand image pertaining to the vehicle’s environmental security would be greatly alleviated. As a Land Rover spokesman has confirmed: “This is something we have been focusing on for two or three years but we needed someone to uniformly coordinate all our efforts. Julian’s new role stretches beyond pure marketing.”

Relatively, news have emerged that Land Rover is in the brainstorming stage of launching a smaller and more fuel-friendly car, so as to reduce the problematic carbon dioxide emissions. This was reaffirmed by Geoff Polites, Chief Officer of Land Rover and Jaguar, in a recent statement: “Part of the sustainability process will include downsizing and smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles.”

Land Rover has forged a partnership with Rainbow Media’s IFC for a new half-hour documentary entitled, “Action Indies: Extraordinary Location Scouts”. The narrative revolves around two scouts navigating around Los Angeles and the Australian outback in search of the perfect backdrop for Indie and studio films. And as the exclusive sponsor, Land Rover would be extensively integrated in the film.

Featuring running commentaries from producers, cinematographers, directors, and other key players in the film location verdict, the location scouts will be seen driving Land Rover vehicles all throughout the footage. Some screenshots are strategically designed to show viewers how the vehicles glide smoothly over rough terrain, while some showcases the superiority of the various Land Rover Parts and aesthetic designs. Land Rover Range Rover Sport will be the featured vehicle in the Los Angeles hunt, whereas Land Rover LR3 will be flaunting its off-road performance in Australia.

Alan Klein, IFC’s Senior Vice President for Partnerships and Licensing, declares in a press release: “We’re excited to be working with Land Rover on this groundbreaking partnership that provides them with a unique and creative opportunity to platform their brand.”

“This customized content allows us to strategically integrate Land Rover into an original film that will entertain and engage IFC viewers and continues the network’s overall strategy to generate revenue as a commercial-free network while providing value to its partners by allowing them to effectively target and reach consumers.”

When interviewed and questioned as to how IFC can promote itself as an ad-free program when it offers in-house sponsorship for specific companies to serve as marketing platforms, Klein has this to say: “The promotional vehicles we create are designed to reach consumers and engage them on a level where conventional commercials can’t compete. Rather than a traditional 30-second spot, each on-air promotion integrates the original content on IFC with the sponsors’ product in an uncluttered environment.”

“Even more unique to these partnerships is that IFC remains true to its ‘TV. Uncut’ brand by working with partners whose brand positioning is in line with what IFC represents and the audience it attracts.”

This original documentary feature is set for release on September 1.

Expect to acquire inside information on the colorful work of location scouting, as well as to glimpse first-class Land Rover Range Rover Parts and the terrain-sturdy LR3 model.

The 2007 Land Rover Defender

The Land Rover Defender is known to be the longest surviving SUV in the industry as its roots date back to as early as 1948. Thus far, the Defender has already sold for nearly 1.9 million units, and is now consistently batting an average of 25,000 units a year worldwide. This stable revenue production over the years can be pinpointed on its established niche markets in the forms of the retail and utility consumers, armed forces, and various non-government organizations. Indeed, consumer loyalty for this Land Rover model is exceptionally high, due to its remarkable blend of cargo-loading versatility, advanced technological capabilities, and remarkable strength and durability. The year 2007 marks another exciting milestone for Defender enthusiasts, as Land Rover releases the line’s new and current model. This latest version, as designed by Rover manufacturers, banks on the set of revised and enhanced Land Rover Defender Parts as the unique selling point. In the powertrain avenue, a series of enhancements and new offerings are provided to further increase the Defender’s performance output. A new 2.4-liter four-cylinder CRD diesel engine presents 120 horsepower and 265 ft-lbs of torque. There is also a new six-speed gearbox consisting of a low first gear and high sixth year, wherein the former aids in the stronger off-road control while the latter focuses on smoother cruising dynamics. In terms of the enhancements to the interior features, the Defender has been designed with a more superior HVAC system to ensure better airflow and temperature control. There is also an improved stereo system with AUX-IN jacks. The seatings, as well, have been given an upgrade in comfort through the integration cozier seats and a forward-facing third row seat option. To further highlight this latest Land Rover Defender, Land Rover managing director Phil Popham had this to say: “We’re building on Defender’s success with a package of improvements that will extend its off-road abilities even further, while transforming on-road refinement and comfort. Jaguar and Land Rover follow the same fate of Aston Martin

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Following the established sale of their Aston Martin fleet early this year, it was in June of 2007 that Ford Motor Company has officially revealed another restructuring and refocusing in their system. This time, it has been reviewing the future and possible options for two other premiere automotive brands under its wing, namely the Jaguar and Land Rover Car divisions. And just a month after said disclosure, Ford has decided the company’s submission for a buyout of said brands and opened the arena for bidding procedures.

A spokesman for the brand earlier indicates, “We’ve had contact with interested parties in terms of Jaguar and Land Rover and we’re evaluating that level of interest. Any discussions we’ve had are preliminary only. We’re working with financial advisors to ascertain the best outcome for the future of Jaguar and Land Rover.”

To date, with the bidding process ongoing, Ford has not concretely divulged the number of bidders for the two luxury British brands, but the company cannot help but declare their amazement in the considerable list of interested parties. However, despite attempts in confidentiality, media reports were already able to identify the list of major suitors for Jaguar and Land Rover. The initial ardent players in the bidding is said to be India’s Tata Motors Ltd., as well as Mahindra & Mahirandar Ltd. Sources has also indicated two former Ford executives are currently leading private equity bids for the two British brands. There is Jacques Nasser, who was Ford CEO from 1999 to 2001. Nasser has teamed up in the bid with a private equity firm owned by JPMorgan Chase, aptly named One Equity Partners. Following Nasser is Nich Scheele, who was Ford’s President and Chief Operating Officer from 2001 until his retirement in 2005 and also headed Jaguar from 1992 to 1999. Scheele has joined the bidding with Ripplewood Holdings LLC.

“Each bidder has the opportunity to come down and sit and meet with the board,” said Jay Ward, a spokesman for Land Rover and Jaguar.

Nevertheless, Don Leclair, Ford’s Chief Financial Officer, has also disclosed that Ford is hoping to wrap up a sale of the two British brands by early next year.

Ford Motors Company acquired Jaguar in 1989 and Land Rover in 2000, linking them with Aston Martin and Swedish-based Volvo to form the company’s Premier Automotive Group. However, Ford posted a record US$12.7-billion loss in 2006. Thus, it has decided to sell some of its foreign brands as a means to raise funds in the restructuring of its energy to its core products of Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln brands. As Aston Martin was already sold to Primrose Cove for US$ 931 million, and with Jaguar and Land Rover already put on the market, Volvo will be the only foreign brand left in the PAG. However, Volvo may also be part of the transition phase for Ford as company officials have confirmed that Volvo is currently being evaluated for its worldwide operations as well.
